Tulum is one of the most important Mayan cities on the Riviera Maya. It was built on the coastline and it overlooks the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The name "Tulum" comes from the Yucatec word for wall. It is likely that the city’s original name was something like Zama or "place of the dawn", which makes sense when you see the dramatic outlook toward the east. The first Spanish sailors to see Tulum reportedly were so impressed that from sea they said it looked as big a city as Seville. Tulum is the only walled city the Maya ever built on the Caribbean coast. The beaches of Tulum are spectacular! Sandy beaches and surf make it great for playing in the waves or just laying out in the sun.

After visiting Tulum, you will visit Xel-Ha Eco-Park for lunch, swimming, and snorkeling.
